I remember sitting in the lecture halls of the Armenian State University of Economics, delving deep into theories of supply and demand, market dynamics, and financial systems. Studying economics provided a solid foundation and a comprehensive understanding of how the financial world operates. It was a path that promised stability and clarity—a reassuring prospect for a young graduate eager to make her mark.
After earning my degree, I embarked on a career in finance at HSBC Bank. The world of international banking was both challenging and rewarding. My days were filled with analyzing financial statements, assessing risks, and navigating the intricate web of global regulations. The precision and discipline required in this environment honed my analytical skills and attention to detail. Yet, amidst the structured routines and the rhythm of numbers, there was a persistent whisper—a quiet call towards creativity and innovation.
The corporate finance world, while intellectually stimulating, often left little room for artistic expression or unconventional thinking. I began to realize that my passion lay beyond the confines of traditional financial roles. The idea of integrating creativity into my professional life started to take hold. How could I bring fresh, innovative solutions to industries deeply rooted in tradition? This question became the spark that ignited a significant shift in my career path.
In today’s rapidly evolving world, the ability to adapt and think creatively is more valuable than ever. Recognizing this, I decided to embrace the unknown and pursue my passion for creativity. In 2016, I enrolled in a Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing at the Digital Marketing Institute in Dublin, Ireland. Transitioning from finance to the dynamic realm of digital marketing was a bold move, filled with both excitement and uncertainty.
The program was transformative. It opened my eyes to the vast possibilities within multi-channel marketing, success measurement, and performance monitoring. More importantly, it rekindled a spark within me. I discovered that creativity isn’t confined to the arts; it’s a driving force that can propel any industry forward. The digital landscape, with its ever-changing nature, offered endless opportunities to blend analytical thinking with creative strategies.
Empowered by this newfound knowledge and my background in economics and finance, I co-founded Davel Creative Agency later that year. Stepping into the roles of Creative Director and CEO was both exhilarating and challenging. The creative industry is a constantly shifting terrain, demanding continuous learning and adaptability. But it was within this fast-paced environment that I truly began to grow as a professional.
Leading a creative agency allowed me to harness my analytical skills from finance and combine them with innovative thinking. Each project became an opportunity to develop unique solutions, tailor strategies to clients’ specific needs, and push the boundaries of conventional marketing. Collaborating with diverse teams fostered an environment where creativity and strategic planning worked in harmony.
The journey was not without its hurdles. Transitioning industries meant stepping out of my comfort zone and confronting the unknown. There were moments of doubt—wondering if leaving a stable career in finance was the right decision, questioning if I could keep pace with the rapid developments in the creative field. However, each challenge reinforced the importance of resilience and the value of embracing change.
One of the most rewarding aspects has been witnessing the tangible impact of innovative solutions in real-world scenarios. From helping startups establish their brand identity to crafting groundbreaking campaigns for established companies, the work has been both fulfilling and impactful. It serves as a constant reminder that creativity, when coupled with strategic insight, can drive significant growth and transformation.
Throughout this journey, I’ve learned that professional growth often occurs when we venture beyond familiar territories. The ever-changing nature of today’s industries necessitates versatility and a willingness to innovate. By blending my background in economics and finance with a passion for creativity, I’ve been able to offer unique perspectives and contribute meaningfully to the marketing landscape.
To anyone feeling that inner call toward creativity, even if you’re rooted in a seemingly unrelated field, I encourage you to explore it. Your skills and experiences are invaluable assets that can enrich your creative pursuits. Industries today are increasingly interdisciplinary, and your unique background can lead to innovative solutions and fresh insights.
Fear of the unknown is natural, but it shouldn’t hinder you from pursuing what truly excites you. The initial uncertainty I faced when shifting from finance to creative marketing was soon overshadowed by the fulfillment and growth that followed. Embracing creativity opened doors to opportunities I hadn’t imagined and allowed me to evolve both personally and professionally.
In an ever-changing industry, adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning are crucial. The creative field thrives on innovation and new ideas. By nurturing your creativity and integrating it with your existing expertise, you can make significant contributions to your industry and find deeper satisfaction in your work.
Reflecting on my journey—from studying economics at the Armenian State University of Economics to working at HSBC Bank, and ultimately stepping into the world of creative marketing—I am grateful for every experience. Each phase taught me valuable lessons and shaped the professional I am today.
So, if you hear that quiet whisper urging you toward creativity, listen to it. Trust in your abilities, embrace the challenges ahead, and don’t be afraid to venture into uncharted waters. Your unique perspective is not just valuable—it’s essential in a world that depends on fresh ideas and innovative solutions.
After all, it’s when we dare to blend our diverse experiences and passions that we truly begin to make a difference. Embrace your creativity, step boldly into the future, and become the catalyst for change you’ve always had the potential to be.
